A few of you may look at the title and think "What the heck is she talking about? That is smocking." (or you would if it wasn't covered past the belt.) And until last week I would have been on your side, but after a chat with my Gramma & a quick bit of Googling, I've changed my mind.

When I told my Gram the other twenty-four hours that I had made Reli a smocked dress she responded with daze and awe "Really?! I never had the patience for all that embroidery, but Mom used to practice it." (Mom being my Slap-up-Nana who passed abroad before my father was even born.) At first I couldn't figure out why she was impressed, and so it hit me, she thought I was talking near this…

Yea Correct! Information technology is beautiful, but there is no fashion I'm making all those tiny pleats without some kinda machine! I suppose most of the world is on my side, since the word smocking now brings to heed images of tube tops and the like. So I estimate now days bodily shirring is called smocking, ruching is called shirring, and pleats are chosen ruching. (Are yous all as confused as I am?)

Whatever you call it, I made it using elastic thread and that'due south all you need to know! Just in deference to Gram and times past I'chiliad going with the "technical term" of shirring merely this in one case. ; D

How cute is it worn as a high waisted skirt?!

I originally fabricated a cloth sash for information technology, but this simple slice of grosgrain ribbon looked even cuter. It kinda has that paper bag await going for it. (I think that's popular now, right?) Don't yous want to make one for yourself? Well practiced, end by next week for the super simple tutorial on how to use this technique to make a clothes or brim for a little girl or yourself. I promise one time you try elastic thread you will find a hundred ways to use it. If you lot've already tried it then you know what I hateful!

Another slap-up thing well-nigh this skirt is that it is made from one rectangle of fabric, and takes next to no time to make! Plus I think information technology really might fit Reli until she is 5. The textile is something that I got for 60% off at Joann's. It'south by Debbie Mumm, but information technology didn't have a "proper noun". Here is a close-up.

Cheers for Visiting!
